The following organizations and websites are concerned with preventing eye disease, finding treatments, or supporting people living with vision impairment. We provide these links as a service, not as an endorsement of the organizations or the contents of the websites.

 

AMD Alliance International

AMD Alliance International strives to bring knowledge, help and hope to individuals and families around the world affected by AMD. The AMD Alliance is designed to generate awareness and understanding of AMD and promote the importance of education, early detection, knowledge of treatment and rehabilitation options.

American Foundation for the Blind (AFB)

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) is a national nonprofit working to expand possibilities for people with vision loss. Their website offers a message board for discussion.

American Health Assistance Foundation

A program of the American Health Assistance Foundation, funds glaucoma and macular degeneration research, and provides the public with information about risk factors, prevention, treatments, resources and coping strategies.

American Macular Degeneration Foundation

American Macular Degeneration Foundation is committed to the prevention and cure of AMD and offers hope and support to those afflicted.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness

The mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive research into retinal degenerative diseases, such as macular degeneration. They offer a message board and chat about retinal disease.

Glaucoma Research Foundation

The Glaucoma Research Foundation funds research in order to better understand and treat glaucoma in the hope of finding a cure.

Glaucoma Service Foundation to Prevent Blindness

The organization's mission is to preserve or enhance the health of all people with glaucoma and to provide a model of medical care by supporting the educational and research efforts of the physicians on the Wills Eye Institute Glaucoma Service.

Lighthouse International

Founded in 1905, Lighthouse International provides clinical services, education, research, and advocacy programs.

Macular Degeneration Partnership (MDP)

Macular Degeneration Partnership (MDP) is a patient education and outreach program of the nonprofit Discovery Eye Foundation. MDP provides accurate and unbiased information about age-related macular degeneration (AMD), support and resources.

The website offers free information and personal assistance for people dealing with macular degeneration and similar retinal diseases.

National Association for Visually Handicapped (NAVH)

NAVH offers training in the use of and access to a wide variety of optical aids and lighting; a large print, nationwide, free-by-mail loan library; large print educational materials; quarterly newsletter; referrals; self-help groups and educational outreach.

National Eye Institute (NEI)

One of the National Institutes of Health, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the NEI conducts and supports research that helps prevent and treat eye diseases and other disorders of vision.

National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind has been the leading source for helping blind and low vision people find the resources, support, and hope they need to lead productive and fulfilling lives. Their website includes resources providing not only information concerning vision loss, but also information that reflects high-expectations, promotes self-confidence, and provides inspiration for blind and low vision people and their loved ones.  In addition, the NFB operates the NFB Jernigan Institute—the only research and training center developed and directed by the blind—providing innovative programs in education, technology, rehabilitation/employment, research, and products and services to help the world’s blind achieve independence.
