A player goes rushing by and in that brief second you find you have become sure of one thing;, you must have that mount. Whether you’re an avid collector or just an average Joe struck by fancy to , you are willing to go to great lengths to obtain the mount of your dreams. If only you knew where it came from! This guide will attempt to help you collect the mount you so desire but be advised that some mounts will take more dedication than others, and to obtain some will prove nothing short of frustrating.

Reputation Reward Mounts

Winterspring Frostsaber
Requirements: Level 40, Riding Skill 75
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei
Source: Can be purchased from Rivern Frostwind who can be found on top of Frostsaber Rock in Winterspring. This mount can be purchased for 10 Gold once you reach Exalted with the Wintersaber Trainers. The easiest way to do this is to complete the daily quests available for this faction. Starting out there will only be one, however halfway through Neutral another quest will open up for you to do. Once you hit Friendly you will have three quests available to help you work towards Exalted. The daily quests for this faction are:

Frostsaber Provisions

Winterfall Intrusion

Rampaging Giants

Green Proto-Drake
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%

Source: Looted from the Cracked Egg which starts out as a Mysterious Egg and can be obtained from the Oracles in Sholazar Basin. You must be Revered reputation or higher to purchase the egg. The Oracles offer several daily quests in the surrounding village to help you gain the needed reputation. Once you are able to buy the egg you will be forced to wait seven days for it to hatch. Once hatched you will find either, an Aged Yolk, one of the various mini-pets, or if you are exceptionally lucky this mount. You may only have one Mysterious Egg in your inventory at one time. The Green Proto-Drake has roughly a 2% drop rate.

Cenarion War Hippogryph
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Purchased from Fedryen Swiftspea in Cenarion Refuge, Zangarmarsh. This mount will cost 1600 Gold, and is only available at Exalted reputation. To achieve Exalted status, run Slave Pens, or Underbog if you can and turn in all the Unidentified Plant Parts you possibly can. These drop off of most the mobs in Zangermarsh. Once you’ve reached Honored you can no longer turn in the Plant parts, so make the most of it while you can. Once you reach Honored, if you haven’t done them already, now would be the best time to knock out all the quests available from the Cenarion Expedition. Also during this time you should turn in any Uncatalogued Species you have previously found.

Riding Talbuks/War Talbuks
Requirements: Level 40, Riding Skill 150/Level 60, Riding Skill 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Riding and War Talbuks can be purchased from either Trader Narasu in Telaar (Alliance), or from Provisioner Nasela in Garadar. Both NPCs can be found in Nagrand. This mount requires you to be Exalted with either the Kurenai or Mag’har depending on if you are Alliance or Horde. There are only so many quests that will give you this reputation so be prepared to kill a lot of Ogres. Ogres can be found in various places throughout Nagrand and will randomly drop War Beads. Once you collect 10, turn in the Beards for reputation, repeat until you reach Exalted. Riding Talbuks cost 56G, while War Talbuks can be purchased for slightly more at 80G. Mounts can be purchased in Cobalt, Silver, White, and Tan.

Nether Drakes
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Nether Drakes can be purchased from Drake Dealer Hurlunk in Netherwing Ledge, Shadowmoon Valley. To purchase these Drakes you will need to gain Exalted reputation with the Netherwing faction. To gain Exalted you will need to complete the daily quests that can be found on Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley. Once Exalted is reached you can complete a quest (given by Onyxien in Lower City, Shattrath) that will allow you to gain one of these mounts for free. Any additional Drakes can be purchased from Drake Dealer Hurlunk for 160G. The Drakes come in many colors including: Onyx, Azure, Viridian, Purple, Violet, and Cobalt.

Nether Rays

Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Nether Rays can be purchased from Grella in Blackwind Landing, Terokkar Forest only after you have reached Exalted with the Sha’tari Skyguard. To gain Exalted simply complete the dailies available to you on Blackwind Landing, and if you really are determined you can also kill most of the mobs there for reputation. Once you’ve reached Exalted these mounts can be purchased for 160G and come in a variety of colors including: Purple, Green, Blue, Red, and Silver.

World Event Mounts

Great Brewfest Kodo/Brewfest Ram
Requirements: Level 40, Riding 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Only available during Brewfest, these mounts have a chance to drop off Coren Direbrew in Blackrock Depths. While the mounts are rather rare, both mounts can occasionally drop at the same time, from the same kill.

Magic Broom
Requirements: Level 10, Riding 75
Movement: Scales with Riding Skill
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: These Brooms are rather common drop from the Headless Horseman, a summon able boss that can be found in Scarlet Monastery during the Hallows End holiday. These brooms automatically become a flying mount when used in Outland or Northrend. These mounts sadly only have a 14 day duration and will then vanish from your bags.

Headless Horseman’s Steed
Requirements: Level 40, Riding 75
Movement: Scales with Riding Skill
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Dropped by the Headless Horseman in Scarlet Monastery during the Hallow’s End holiday event these mounts scale themselves to the riding skill of the rider. These mounts will fly when the rider is in Outland or Northrend. A very rare mount indeed with less than a 2% drop rate.

Other

Mekgineer's Chopper (A)/Mechano-Hog (H)
Requirements: Level 80, Riding 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: This nifty little motor bike can be crafted for you by an Engineer. However you will find that it will cost you quite a bit of gold in the process. The materials are none too cheap, and will take some time to collect. I don’t think we will be seeing these selling consistently on the AH anytime soon.

Argent Tournament Mounts
The Argent Tournament provides many mounts for every kind of taste. Simply gain the correct faction for the mount you want, and collect enough Champions Seals to purchase the mount of your choice.
